In March, Jon got the opportunity to go to Honduras with Brian Spencer (his boss) and several guys from Life Church International. They were going to install three a/c units for a missionary couple that run a clinic there. I'm going to post the comments from Brian about the trip (he sums it up well):
"Dr. Martin & Wendy Williams are American missionaries with a medical clinic in the mountains of northern Honduras. I had told them years ago if they ever needed a/c, let me know. They're about to open a labor and deliver area, and an operating room, so the time had come. At the end of January my wife and I drove 3 complete systems to Houston to be placed in a shipping container.
Last Sunday 5 of us from Life Church International flew down. The plan was for the equipment to be sitting there ready to go. Returning Friday, this would give us the week to install.
We arrived, the equipment was not there, caught up in customs. It should be ready Tuesday, or Wednesday at the latest. Wednesday would be pushing it, we were praying for Tuesday. Tuesday came, no equipment. Wednesday, no equipment. It finally became ready on Thursday, but we were running out of time. So Thursday morning we drove to the city (La Ceiba) with 3 trucks to bring the equipment up the mountain. Thursday, 4:00, everything arrived at the hospital.
At 4:00pm Thursday, we should be preparing to head home (we're leaving at 5:30am the following morning).
We were very fortunate to be at the hospital the same time as a medical group from Bay Community Church from Mobile Alabama. So at 4:00 Thursday we began the installation, with the wonderful help from the nurses, doctors and pharmacist from Bay Community.
We worked hard thru the night, often by flashlight, stopping at 4:30am to get ready to leave.
In one night, we did a week's worth of work. We completed 95% of the project, short a couple of supplies. I was overjoyed, and overwhelmed. We were all exhausted.
I am so thankful for the fine men and women from Bay Community for jumping in to bail us out. Thankful to God for giving us this opportunity to serve. Thankful to Martin and Wendy Williams for showing us how to serve.
Another a/c guy is going down next week, he should be able to finish and start up the 3 new cooling systems.
Many of you had been praying for us, and I thank you immensely."
